Sunburn Remedy

Leah LeFera

Switching things up a bit for this month’s Member-Owner Tried and True recipe, we bring you a recipe for a natural sunburn remedy from Leah LaFera (MO #349). Leah, owner of Sweet Sprig and a long-time Greenmarket vendor, has been using this remedy for years and has converted quite a few friends from dyed aloe vera to this as well.

Through Sweet Sprig, Leah celebrates the art of self-care with eco-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free products —artisan soaps, silky-smooth creams, and soothing soy candles— to indulge in self-love that's kind, conscious, and beautifully effective. Not only are they eco-friendly, but the bar soaps are minimally packaged without plastic.

Sweet Sprig is located at 14 N Church St in Schenectady's historic Stockade District - drop on by and celebrate Plastic-Free July today!

DIY Sunburn Relief

What You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of water

  • 1 cup of ice cubes

  • 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar

  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil

Directions:

  • Prepare Your Ice Water: Start by combining the water and ice cubes in a bowl. This will create a cooling base for our remedy.

  • Add Apple Cider Vinegar: Pour in the apple cider vinegar. This magical ingredient helps balance the skin's pH and speeds up the healing process.

  • Mix in Lavender Essential Oil: Add the lavender essential oil drops. Lavender is renowned for its soothing properties and will help reduce inflammation and pain.

  • Stir It Up: Give the mixture a good stir to ensure everything is well combined.

  • Soak a Cloth: Take a clean, soft cloth and soak it in the mixture. Wring out any excess liquid – you want it damp, not dripping.

  • Apply to Sunburned Skin: Gently place the damp cloth on the affected areas. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes. You can repeat this process several times a day for best results.
